Highway works will start in Laindon in August, marking a major milestone in the town centre regeneration being delivered by Sanctuary.
The scheme will provide a new larger Lidl, 15 local shops, and 200 affordable homes with parking.
An improved medical centre option will also be available, along with new public spaces for the Laindon War Memorial and Fountain.
Dave Soothill, Sanctuary Development Director, said:
“We apologise for the disruption the roadworks will cause in the short term. The change to the road layout is required to provide access to the development site and build a new, larger Lidl supermarket.”
New hoarding is also being erected around the site where initial works started in December last year.
Following consultation events with local residents and businesses, Sanctuary is updating plans for the site, which it took over when it acquired Swan Housing Association in February 2023, to Basildon Council.
Sanctuary is one of the largest not-for-profit providers of housing and care in the country, managing around 125,000 units of accommodation across England and Scotland, including social housing, care homes, supported housing and student accommodation.
