Sanctuary is delivering a multi-million-pound regeneration of Talbot Gardens on the Barne Barton estate in St Budeaux, Plymouth.
We are delivering a multi-million-pound regeneration project which will transform the community and provide a mix of high-quality new housing for local people.
The new homes will replace 10 blocks of maisonettes on Talbot Gardens, Savage Road and Roope Close. We previously managed the 120 homes across the blocks and have been working with residents and local stakeholders throughout the life of the project.
We have made significant progress demolishing six empty blocks across the estate and are currently on site constructing the first 28 new apartments. The homes are being built using our own in-house construction team. This means we have greater control over the build process and quality. The work is also creating valuable employment opportunities for local people.
Residents living in the remaining four blocks are seeing the progress of work on their new homes which we hope to complete in late 2025.

Proposals take shape
Resident feedback has been vital in helping shape our plans for the estate.
We had planned to hold another public consultation over the summer of 2020 but due to the Covid-19 pandemic, this was unfortunately not possible. Instead, residents were invited to provide feedback on our latest plans and ask questions via post, email, or a dedicated web page with the proposals.
Residents invited to discuss proposals
We launched our exciting plans for a regenerated Barne Barton estate in February 2020.
Residents and the wider community were invited along to a consultation event where they could view a range of displays, speak with staff and provide their feedback to help shape the future of Talbot Gardens.

On 1 March 2019, Sanctuary consulted with residents about the future of 10 blocks of maisonettes on Talbot Gardens, Savage Road and Roope Close. The event, part of a month-long consultation, provided residents with the opportunity to provide feedback on two investment options for the estate – regenerating with new homes or refurbishing the existing properties.
