What is a service charge?
A service charge is a payment that covers the cost of various services that we provide to you and other residents in your block or estate. This includes property management, routine maintenance and upkeep of communal areas.
Your services are usually included in your lease or tenancy agreement and are specific to your block or estate. We normally ask you to pay this charge in advance so there are funds available to cover any costs that come up.
How do you decide how much my service charge will be?
Service charges are worked out based on the cost of delivering services and maintaining equipment in shared areas and reflect the expected costs for the coming year. We look to make sure any increases are affordable and manageable. We continue to monitor all of our services to make sure they give customers value for money. A main reason for any rise in your service charges is the annual impact of price inflation.
What can I do if I disagree with my service charge?
If you disagree with your service charges and feel you shouldn’t have to pay some or all of them, we’d usually ask for one of these reasons to apply:
-
You’ve been charged for a service you didn’t receive
-
The quality of the work isn’t acceptable
-
The costs aren’t reasonable or payable under your agreement
-
We didn’t consult you correctly
