Apprentice - Electrical Installation (Property Services - Scotland)

As someone who has always enjoyed practical work and with a strong interest in the electrical industry, Sanctuary’s Electrical Installation Apprenticeship really stood out to me. It felt like the ideal career path, offering the perfect balance of theory and hands-on work.

I chose to pursue a career as an electrician because I enjoy problem solving and the practical aspects of the role. I knew there were different into this career that I could take - university or an apprenticeship scheme.

As I prefer a more hands-on approach to learning, an apprenticeship was something I was interested in, so I applied to Sanctuary’s apprenticeship programme and was delighted to secure a place within the Property Services team.

Within the first year of my apprenticeship, I have already developed the ability, under supervision, to conduct a full Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR). This is a mandatory requirement needed for change of property ownership or for fault finding exercises, so I’m pleased to have gained this valuable knowledge so early in the course.

I have noticed a significant shift in other areas of my skill set too. I feel confident in handling equipment such as power tools, and my communication skills have improved massively - and continue to do so.

It’s key to be able to speak to customers and keep them updated on any work being carried out, so the opportunity to interact with Sanctuary’s customers first-hand has been invaluable.

I’m excited to begin the second year of my apprenticeship with Sanctuary, focusing on developing my fault-finding skills and putting into practice what I’ve learnt at college in real-life scenarios.

I’m looking forward to working towards my recognised qualification in electrical installation and I’m eager to see what opportunities may lie ahead with Sanctuary after completing my apprenticeship.
