Ashlee's story

Ashlee Boyne

Contracts and Data Administrator

I shared the same perspective as many of my peers did back in school: that apprenticeships were a backup plan if university didn’t work out… how wrong I was. Two years after securing my apprenticeship role with Sanctuary, I now have a permanent position within the Sanctuary Care Contracts and Commissioning team.

My apprenticeship journey with Sanctuary has been nothing short of life changing. It has provided me with the skills, knowledge, and professional network to thrive in my career for many years to come.

Through this steady progression, I have been able to build a solid foundation of technical skills, along with a wealth of experience in problem-solving and collaborative working. I’m proud to share some of the key milestones I’ve achieved since the start of my apprenticeship journey:

  • Becoming a valued member of the Apprenticeship Ambassador Network and joining Herefordshire and Worcestershire Group Training Association’s (HWGTA) Apprentice Council as Co-Chair (October 2023)
  • Being shortlisted as a regional finalist for Advanced Apprentice of the Year at the 2024 West Midlands Apprenticeship Awards
  • Achieving the Level 3 Business Administrator Apprenticeship with Distinction
  • Winning HWGTA’s 2024 Commerce Apprentice of the Year award
  • Securing a permanent position within the Contracts and Commissioning team in December 2024

As I reflect on my personal growth with Sanctuary over the last two years, I can’t help but notice a complete shift in my confidence and communication skills. The opportunities Sanctuary’s apprenticeship scheme has given me have pushed me out of my comfort zone, shaping me both professionally and personally.

I’d really recommend Sanctuary’s apprenticeship schemes to anyone who is unsure about what direction to take next in their career. My life didn’t end when I chose to move away from the traditional educational route; in fact, it got a whole lot better.
