Who are the Group Housing Board?
The Group Housing Board is a Committee of the Group Board of Sanctuary Housing Association. It is a dynamic and forward thinking committee and prides itself on leading the way in ensuring Sanctuary Group provides customer focussed, high quality housing and supported living services, with properties stretching from Cornwall to Aberdeenshire. The Group Housing Board membership is comprised of Group Board members, Senior Executives and Residents.
We pride ourselves on providing high quality essential services to our diverse communities in England and Scotland and are looking for those who share our values and vision to join our Group Housing Board as a resident representative for Sanctuary Group.
Interested in joining?
Are you interested in playing an active role with Sanctuary Group, ensuring our residents receive the highest quality services, delivered in a fair and sustainable way which benefits them and our communities alike? Are you passionate about the provision of high-quality housing and services and making sure our residents’ voices are heard?
If so, we have an exciting opportunity for someone looking to use their lived experience of housing and supported living services to help us shape and grow our services, with our customers at the heart of what we do.
This opportunity may be particularly interesting to those looking to expand their knowledge and skills in a voluntary capacity in the housing sector, or looking for opportunities to use their existing expertise to support and contribute to Sanctuary’s local communities.

Who are we looking for?
We are looking for an additional resident representative to join our active Group Housing Board on a voluntary basis. You will join other like-minded individuals who are passionate about our customers and communities, who all play an integral part in the governance, strategic direction and growth of our organisation, contribute to our mission of building affordable homes and sustainable communities where people choose to live.
Some travel between our offices may be required, however we are able to hold meetings both in person and remotely so can facilitate a hybrid arrangement; and all reasonable adjustments to enable full participation will be considered for those who require it. In return we will provide personal development through ongoing training and support.
As a voluntary position it will not be paid, but any reasonable travel and expenses for attendance at meetings will be covered.
Sanctuary Group is deeply committed to providing a culture of inclusivity and diversity which is fundamental to our values and we welcome applications from all sections of our communities. However, you must be a current Sanctuary tenant to apply. We are looking for applications from those who:
- represent our diverse communities
- demonstrate that they share our values and those of the social housing sector
- have a genuine commitment to strengthening our local communities and our relationship with our customers
- have the confidence and ability to question and challenge effectively.

We would particularly welcome interest from candidates who can use their lived experience of receiving the type of services that Sanctuary provides to help inform and shape our services. Other valuable experience would include having worked within the housing or supported living sectors previously.
A lack of experience in these areas is no barrier to application, and we encourage applications from those who are genuinely committed to using their skills to bring new and multi-facetted approaches to our Group Housing Board. We are looking for those who can demonstrate:
- that they are fair, rational and impartial
- have a genuine interest in our services and our customers’ needs
- are able to understand and analyse information and data
- can communicate and share views and ideas in a constructive and objective way.
The position to commence from April 2024 with an initial term of office of three years. The deadline for applications is 21 January and we will be looking to interview candidates towards the end of February. Once you've submitted your application, you will hear back from us by the middle of February 2024.
Eligibility criteria will apply – please refer to our eligibility criteria outlined on our resident scrutiny panel page. if you have any queries, please note them when you apply and we’ll reply to you directly.
