Sanctuary
Volunteers and local businesses rolled up their sleeves and helped give a popular green space in Lache a bright new look.
Lache Growing Space is one of four community allotment sites run by Sanctuary in Chester, where residents can grow their own fruit and veg.
Although the site is well used, parts of it were in need of a little attention after being visited less often during the pandemic.
Sanctuary’s local neighbourhood team organised a ‘Transformation Day’, where they were joined by volunteers from Vinci Construction and H E Simm, as well as other Sanctuary staff and members of the local community.
A host of local businesses also donated equipment to support the event, including Vinci, Kenny Waste, Bora Construction and Lee Brothers.
As well as clearing overgrown areas, the volunteers painted fences and picnic tables, resurfaced parts of the site with soft bark and replaced older wooden beds.
Ria Burns, Sanctuary’s neighbourhood partnerships manager, said: “We had a brilliant day and would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who got stuck in and lent us their support.
“We’ve made a great start on transforming the site and we’re hoping to return soon to carry out more work and keep it looking its best for our growers.”
