We are supporting a community art project as part of its work to deliver a major town centre regeneration in Laindon.
The Laindon Bench Project, commissioned by Creative Basildon and delivered by photographic artist Mark Massey, is asking members of the community to take self-portraits on a ‘friendship bench’ touring schools and community venues across Laindon.
The portraits, along with quotes from the participants about their community and what local friendships and connections mean to them, will then be displayed in a special exhibition on the hoardings at our development site.
Our Laindon Centre regeneration is delivering around 200 new affordable homes along with 15 local shops and a new larger Lidl store.
Dave Soothill, Sanctuary Development Director - National, said: “We’re committed to working closely with our local communities, so we’re pleased to be supporting this exciting project in Laindon.
“Laindon’s long-awaited regeneration is something we are proud to be delivering, and we can’t wait to see the final exhibition on display at our development site.”
The exhibition will be officially unveiled on the section of hoarding between Laindon War Memorial and Laindon Health Centre on Saturday 15 March.
Between 10am-4pm on the day, visitors will have the opportunity to help local artists decorate the friendship bench, which will then be donated to community venue chosen by project participants.
