Sanctuary
Local residents from the Warndon estate in Worcester alongside the Worcestershire Wildlife Trust (WWT) have come together to start the process of turning an underused green space owned by Sanctuary into a community asset for all to enjoy.
Over the summer our Community Investment Team held a discovery day with pop up café and family activities for residents and a neighbouring primary school.
Over 40 people turned out to talk about how the space could be improved. Ideas included accessible paths, rewilded areas, raised beds, nature walks, outdoor gym equipment and bug hotels.
A number of residents are now meeting every Wednesday to litter pick, do some planting and undertake nature surveys to find out what creatures call the site home.
The WWT are supporting these activities with funding from Sanctuary’s Sustainable Communities Fund and the long term aim is for residents to continue being involved and to take the lead in how the site continues to develop into a green space for all.
If you have an idea for a similar project in your area, please get in touch with your Housing Officer.
