The Boat Yard development is a scheme of 48 affordable homes in Chesterfield.
Part funded by Homes England, the £6.73m site was previously a 3.2-acre brownfield site located at the southern edge of Unstone in Chesterfield. It was formerly a boat sales yard and has historically housed a brick kiln. Of the 48 homes, 42 are affordable rent properties and six for shared ownership.
In addition to the new housing, a piece of stone artwork greets residents and visitors at the entrance of a site, inscribed with a bespoke poem by local author Helen Mort. The poem reflects the dual history of the site, while the sculpture itself resembles both the ocean waves boats built at the yard would go on and the kind of chimney pot assembled at the former brick kiln.
We also invested £12,000 to transform the nearby Whittington Lane playground as part of the project.
We are proud to have completed a diverse range of development and regeneration projects in communities across England and Scotland.
We are committed to investing in our communities. One of the ways we do this is by carrying out regeneration works that will improve the quality of life of the people living in the area.
