Warm Home Discount Scheme helps low-income households

Help is at hand for some low-income households with £150 off electricity bills this winter.

People on certain benefits will get the Warm Home Discount Scheme automatically, while others will have to apply. However, the money doesn’t come to you directly – it goes to energy suppliers who’ll knock it off your bill before 31 March 2023.

If you receive the Guarantee Credit element of Pension Credit and your energy supplier is part of the scheme, you’ll get the discount automatically.

You may also be eligible if your energy firm has signed up to the scheme and you claim other qualifying means-tested benefits. If this is you, you’ll get a letter between November and January saying you are eligible, and you can apply.

You may also qualify if you claim either child tax credit or working tax credit and your household income is below a certain level.
